May 2, 2005 – Technical Seminars
8:00am
- Reliability Centered Maintenance
Presenter: Terry Harris
About
the Seminar
Determining all the possible failure modes of your equipment
is the function of RCM. By doing this process you predict,
prevent, eliminate these failures and improve your process
to do what it was designed to do. This can lead to improved
uptime, reduced quality problems, improve H,S,E for
your employees and business.
About
the Presenter
Terry’s has spent +25 years of his career in the grain
and food processing industry. Most of this time was
devoted to maintenance efforts, with the last 5 years
being devoted to improving the reliability of his plant
and other US and European locations. Along with working
as the facility Maintenance and Reliability leader Terry
was involved with many corporate wide projects to cut
costs and improve equipment reliability. Over the past
two years Terry has devoted his efforts in applying
the RCM Blitz process to critical pieces of equipment
and processes within many industries with excellent
results. Terry has performed training in Europe, China,
and Thailand, and is working on future projects in Egypt
and Korea.
Terry
is now working with companies such as Crown Solutions,
Reliability Solutions, and Reliable Process Solutions
to train clients in the RCM Blitz process. Terry has
extensive training and experience in the areas of Predictive
technologies to help detect and predict equipment failures.
Terry has developed many Proactive maintenance programs
to bring maintenance operations to a more efficient
and profitable stage. The experience of Proactive and
Predictive maintenance goes hand and hand with the RCM
Blitz process.
9:00am
- Optimizing Membrane Life & Performance
Presenter: Dave Christophersen
About
the Seminar Membranes have limited life spans and must
be replaced as they foul or degrade. With proper care
and monitoring, membrane lives can be lengthened. This
seminar will cover membrane monitoring, chemical treatment
options, cleaning strategies and procedures, and care
techniques including a novel approach of using clean-in-place
equipment for temporary membrane layup and cleaning.
About
the Presenter
Dave holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Grove City College
and an MBA from Butler University. Dave is also Certified
as a Water Technologist through the Association of Water
Technologies.
His
water treatment experience includes fieldwork for the
water services division of Olin Corporation starting
in 1977, followed by working with Betz, leaving them
as a district manager. He then became a member of the
CROWN team. Since 1986 Dave has served as a principal
and the technical support manager for CROWN Solutions
Inc. Providing creative chemical, operational, and equipment
solutions is the mission of the company as part of an
integrated water management strategy. Training Crown
associates and helping to develop the best solution
for a client is the task of the technical department
and where Dave enjoys concentrating his efforts.
Dave
has presented at the Association of Water Technologies
on “Understanding Differences of Boiler Feedwater Pretreatment
Equipment”, participated in the AWT regional training
program, and has co-authored a paper for NACE, “Some
Common Mechanisms Leading to Failures in Heat Recovery
Steam Generators.”
9:00am
– Water Minimization Strategies for Boilers and Cooling
Towers
Presenter: Jeff Eldridge
About
the Seminar
Boilers and cooling towers require makeup water to function
and both generate wastewater as blowdown. Numerous technologies,
control schemes, operation changes, etc. are available
to minimize the water-usage requirements. This seminar
will cover boiler and cooling tower water saving methods
that can be applied to save water, sewer and energy
costs. Examples of topics covered include:
Boilers:
high-purity makeup, condensate return, water chemistry,
blowdown controllers
Cooling
Towers: soft-water makeup, blended city/soft-water makeup,
water chemistry, acid feed, reverse osmosis concentrate,
recycled wastewater, blowdown controllers, leaks.
About
the Presenter
Jeff Holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry
and Environmental Studies from Wright State University.
He is also Certified as a Water Technologist by the
Association of Water Technologies.
Jeff
spent four years in the United States Air Force as a
Staff Chemist, managing IWT programs for individual
bases. In 1989, Jeff came to CROWN as a Water Management
Specialist. In 1998, Jeff left CROWN to work as Stationary
Engineer in the powerhouse at a local Delphi plant.
In 2001, he became a Senior Energy Auditor with TAC/Control
Solutions in Lebanon, Ohio. We are pleased to report
that in 2002 Jeff came back to CROWN, where he is once
again a Water Management Specialist. He also works in
a Technical Support role at CROWN.
All
three of our presenters bring a wealth of knowledge
and experience in Water Treatment. If you have questions
after the seminars, the can be reached via email for
phone:
